We arrived at one of the most beautiful resorts I have ever been on when we got to Langkawi. Here is Michael on our lanai:
the view from our room:
Our first stop was to go up on the cable cars. You had to walk through Oriental Village first:
I was able to find my trusty hat in this area - it was $5 well spent to keep the brutal sun off my face the rest of the trip. We also ate some really good Tandoori chicken, steak and lamb (lamb only for Michael though) with nan for our Valentine's dinner!
They had small animal parks around the perimeter - this little guy found himself a lollipop:
Here is the bottom of the cable cars where you started the ride up the mountain:
Me at the first base station looking out at the Andaman Sea:
Looking from the first base station to the second base station (and the suspended bridge):
Looking down from the first base station:
Looking across the opposite side of the island:
The suspended bridge:
Us at the top of the second base station:
Looking from station 2 to station 1:
Me on the suspended bridge. I wasn't a fan - some of the boards were really loose and the whole bridge swayed in the wind:
Michael liked it ... surprise surprise. There is a video at the end of this post of us walking over the bridge.
Our first Langkawi sunset:
it was like we were standing in the middle of a postcard:
the next pics look like we photoshopped ourselves in:

Sunrise from our lanai:
The first full day we were there, we took a trip out to Pulau Payar Marine Park (about 45 minutes by boat from Langkawi). Here is Michael coming to join me on the sundeck for the ride out there:
My hat almost blew off numerous times:
One of the crew was able to brave the rocking boat long enough to snag our picture. I guess there were life jackets on the boat ... I almost died when another couple brought their two LITTLE kids up to the top and let them teeter around without life jackets (there wasn't much of anything stopping them from going over the side!). Definitely different safety standards:
When we got there, we got shuttled from the big boat to the pier so we could spend the day on the beach. Here is the view from the beach. There were crazy amounts of fish to look at beneath the pier. We saw some of the biggest angel fish I have ever seen (about 1 foot tall) and thousands and thousands of different fish that I hadn't ever seen before. We also saw a GIGANTIC jelly fish when we first got in the water (about a 1.5 foot plus long tentacles) ... that was scary.
Michael after swimming with sharks:
Yep, thats Michael down there (yellow goggles) with the sharks and the barracuda:This is the aquatic animal that I was not cool with ... I swam right over the top of the barracuda and then hightailed it to shore. It was about 5-6 foot long and SCARY. All of the sharks and the barracuda come in to eat the bread the tourists throw out:
Lots of sharks:
I posted two videos at the end of the post showing the sharks and the fish eating:
Me at Pulau Payar getting ready to leave:
We got bad sunburned while here (even after applying 45 sunblock early on and everytime we got out of the water!) ... so the hats and coverups were a must for the rest of the trip :)

This day-trip was our favorite part of Langkawi:
We did enjoy the infinity pool at the resort too ... with the swim-up bar:
The resort gave us a fruit plate when we got there (fruit is so expensive on Oki so we take advantage of every opportunity!) I love dragonfruit and this was my first time to get to peel it myself:
On our second full day we started by heading to town for breakfast then we hung out on the beach, rented kayaks to go around the little islands, and then ate out in town at a decent Thai place. The city center was cleaner than Indonesia, but we still didn't feel really comfortable out in town at night so we headed back to the resort right after dinner.
We were able to find some sand dollars!
