Guilin, China - Li River Cruise

Guilin was not our favorite part of the trip. A "quaint" fishing town ... with 1.5 million people. There was a lot of poverty here - the Li River seemed as though it was the city's main source of income. The hotel we stayed in was "5-star" ... but was more like a Super 8 (and it was the only 5 star in Guilin). We did get to try the Guilin infamous breakfast rice noodles - and they were pretty good :)
Here are the boats at the pier, ready for passengers. You had to walk across all the boat's decks until you got to the boat you were supposed to be on:
The scenery was beautiful though:
The start of the "cruise":
The smaller boats (lower part of the pic) would be catching fish, shrimp, crabs, etc and then go and sell them to the tourist boats so they could feed the guests:
Here are some of the kitchens on the boat ... looks sanitary doesn't it ;P
I think they made things up along the route for people to look for. I can't even remember what this was supposed to be on the side of the cliff:
We did see a true mountain goat though :)
This was a cool cave:
This guy had birds that were catching a ride on his boat too (at the very ends):
If you look hard, you can see a little bridge across this crevice that has a basket hanging down:
Not sure what this bronze statue was about:
Now THIS one I could kind of tell what it was - its supposed to be a man riding a horse:
A cave on the side of the cliff:
No clue ...
There were water buffalo everywhere!
Us:
Seriously ... 7 horses!? I don't see it.
Fisherman ...
The people sitting down were painting - and the people in the water were washing their brushes:
This was the best part about Guilin. We met some awesome Australians and drank a bunch of beer with them:
Once we got off the boat we were herded through this tourist trap. I loved it - great bargains!
True. True.
More of the market:
Michael took this one - the hand dryer was rigged up to the light switch. Nice.
